Music is one of my most favorite, simple pleasures. Music can connect to our soul and move through us like a breeze or shock us like a bolt of lightning. I love all kinds of music. Some I love for the beautiful, heartfelt words. Some I love for the way the instruments compliment each other perfectly. Some I love because it is loud and fast and just makes me want to bang my head. Sometimes I’ll hear a song that I love and close my eyes, clear my mind, and get swept away into that piece of music by singing my heart out. No matter what that song means to me at that time, it could be anger, heartbreak, or overflowing love, I can feel it within me. That simple fact is beautiful.
We are a family of music lovers. Both of our boys are extremely talented because they can play multiple instruments and they love playing in bands. It is so inspiring to hear either of them pick up an instrument and make music that fills the air. Talk about being a proud mama when I hear them playing. And to see our daughter grow in her musical tastes also brings a smile to my face. She is learning to appreciate more and more types of music, old and new. I’m not sure if she will learn to play an instrument as well, but if she wants to, I know her brothers can teach her how. Music is a wonderful way to bring our family together and hopefully those will be memories that our kids will cherish, just as I do of my childhood.
So let’s turn the TV off and crank up the music and sing till our hearts desire. And if you are talented enough to know how to play an instrument, then play baby play.
Rock on Everyone!
